Trauma represents any injury resulting
from an form of automobile, industrial or
recreational accident or is the result of an
act of violence associated with an assault or
act of terrorism or explosion. The potential
combination of traumatic injuries is unlimited.
Trauma could also be a
secondary problem which could be the result of
an underlying medical emergency. When this type
of situation occurs it will require the
administration of both medical and trauma
related emergency care.
For example, did the patient
have a diabetic emergency first which resulted
in an automobile accident causing multiple
traumatic injuries. Consequently, the rescuer
would need to treat the underlying diabetic
condition along with the potential and literal
head, spinal and other traumatic injuries
associated with the accident.
